'GTA 6' Release Date, Rumors & News: Rockstar Confirms Chicago Setting? The Truth Revealed!
The thought of setting "Grand Theft Auto VI" in Chicago could be very exciting indeed, specially when one learns it has been confirmed by publisher Rockstar Games. However, the idea may still be far from reality -- because as it turns out, the news claiming Rockstar's confirmation has been fake all along, according to the Epoch Times.
The outlet claimed that Huzlers.com's article was fake, coupled by the fact that the latter is a satirical site which combines "urban news and satirical entertainment to keep its visitors in a state of disbelief."
The controversial report stated, "Rockstar Games has just confirmed to reporters that the next 'Grand Theft Auto' video game will take place in a city based on the city of Chicago, Illinois. Rockstar Games confirmed the game will not be titled 'Grand Theft Auto 6,' but instead 'Grand Theft Auto: Lake City.'"
Rockstar Games president Sam Houser also appeared to make a statement in the article, "It fits perfectly, Chicago is a major U.S. city and one of the most known. We knew we needed a game in Chicago and 'Lake City' was a perfect name simply because the city is bordered by Lake Michigan on the east. And for now we can only reveal the main character will be African American; hell, we might even make that Chief Keef guy the main character. We also include real car brand names."
All the hype targeted at "GTA VI" is understandable, given the fact that "GTA V" is known to be one of the best-selling games of all time. Earlier this year, Forbes noted that the title holds the record of being the best-selling console video game of 2013 in North America, Latin America and Europe. At the time of writing, "GTA V" has sold over 33 million units.
Guinness World Records confirmed this success of "GTA V," which apparently broke six new world records -- including highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours and the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion.
"Grand Theft Auto VI" might come out in 2018, as predicted by gta6grandtheftauto.com. Citing Rockstar's release strategy, the outlet is convinced that the game particularly arrives sometime between 2018 and 2020. That's still a long way to go -- but if fans can wait long enough for the "GTA Online" Heists DLC, why not the franchise's next installment?
Other speculations surrounding "GTA VI" include the participation of a female protagonist and a 1970's-inspired setting. Previously, we have also reported the alleged confusion happening over Rockstar's management, as it has been suggested that the company is torn between launching "GTA VI" or "GTA: San Andreas 2."
