Android L 5.0 Lollipop Update Download for HTC One M8, M7 Release Date in 2015?
The much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop has arrived among HTC One M8 and One M7 handsets, but only for their Google Play Edition versions. According to BGR, HTC has made it clear that the regular, unlocked and carrier-hosted HTC One models would get Android's newest OS within 90 days following its official release. Recalling past events, Lollipop officially began its roll-out Nov. 3, as announced by Android's official blog.
Now, it is speculated that the HTC One flagships are set to receive the update Jan. 3, as suggested by Dutch site Tech Tastic. Citing confirmation from multiple sources, the outlet claimed that the update will be released in stages, one region after another.
BGR added that the Lollipop upgrade for these HTC units should bring about Sense software improvements. Reportedly, the Jan. 3 date is yet to be announced in a London-based HTC event, said International Business Times.
To support its claims, Tech Tastic also provided images that show a test build of the new Sense interface (running in HTC One M8), wrote TechRadar. Judging by its nature, the build would probably adopt more changes prior to launch, so we could expect to see a better version once it's all officially out.
The HTC Sense 6 may also be quickly replaced by Sense 7, as predicted by Android Headlines. The outlet is convinced that the latter will launch alongside the Taiwanese tech giant's 2015 flagship, currently known as HTC One M9 among whispers and hearsays.
As we have previously reported, the rumored HTC One M9 is allegedly packing a 5.5-inch screen, running a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The model will likely include 3 GB of RAM, 3500mAh battery, 16 MP camera (with OIS support), Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 /510 processor and 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage options. A "Prime" version has also been conceptualized. The device may launch at the next Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Meanwhile, IBT added that the GPE versions of the 2013 and 2014 HTC flagships have already jumped to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, Google's latest patch update. Accordingly, this has resolved a number of bugs, including the ones found in factory reset and video playback.
Other devices slated to receive Lollipop include HTC Desire Eye, HTC One (M8) Dual SIM, HTC One (M7) Dual SIM, HTC One (E8), HTC One (E8) Dual SIM and HTC Butterfly 2, which should come sometime between January and March, according to IBT. Expected to update between March and April are HTC One Mini 2 and HTC Desire 816. Finally, the time between March and May might give room for the HTC One Max, HTC One Mini and HTC Butterfly S to update.
