iPod Touch 6th Generation Release Date, Specs & Features: 3 Reasons Why Apple Could End Product Line
We've been hearing about Apple's upcoming sequel to its compact multimedia player line -- dubbed as the sixth-generation iPod touch -- but the idea might just crash even before it sees the light of day.
This contradicts our previous report which revealed rumors claiming that the device makes its first impression in Spring 2015, alongside the Apple Watch and the iOS 8.2. It is then believed that the device packs Apple Pay, Retina Display, 128 GB storage option and Touch ID fingerprint system.
Thus, we've collected three possible reasons why Tim Cook's company might ditch the player once and for all.
The iPod touch May Not Meet Apple's Expectations
Bidness Etc reported new speculations which claimed that the Cupertino giant may no longer be satisfied of iPod touch's sales margins. Accordingly, investors and iOS developers themselves assumed that the device won't come at par with the rest of the company's iDevices.
Meanwhile, the source cited other reports telling that Apple has been "intentionally delaying" the product's release to pave the way for the highly-anticipated Apple Watch (AKA "iWatch").
The Death of the iPod Classic
The non-touchscreen, 2007 player that served fans' ears is no longer in production. CNET took note back in September that this was indeed true. It goes to say that if Apple was able to kill something so classic, why not its successors? After all, the company seemed to do well with its iPhone 6 (and 6 Plus) flagship.
But this isn't a very drastic measure though, if one considers the June price-cut of the iPod touch line. CNET added that a new rear camera was introduced, on top of other color variety options.
Apple Appears to Not Pay Attention on the iPod touch
Let's face it: We all haven't heard any decent news confirming the device's legitimacy (the name "iPod touch 6G" is even a product of hearsays). The iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3, Retina iMacs, Apple Watch, iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite have all been presented to the public. But the next iPod touch?
If it comes otherwise, Christian Today believed that the company is hesitant to announce the new iPod touch simply because of the "growing smartphone market." Because of these handsets, the outlet is convinced that people no longer find it necessary to purchase an iPod touch -- since the iPhone can essentially perform its functions and even more, anyway.
