Manchester United Transfer News & Rumors: Marco Reus, Nathaniel Clyne, Kevin Strootman to Old Trafford; Patrice Evra Returns?
Four athletes may find themselves in Old Trafford soon, after a series of rumors revealed that Manchester United is willing to infuse talent to its roster.
Nathaniel Clyne, 23, was ultimately a no-go when he was last linked to United because management thought there was still a glimmer of hope with Rafael Da Silva, said The Peoples Person.
However, it noted, the team is now realizing Da Silva might not be shaking off his injury-laden image anytime soon, and it would be best to take in Clyne from Southampton, especially with his contract running out in 18 months.
Citing other reports, The Peoples Person said United has watched the athlete play multiple times and interest has only grown, while Liverpool might also want him.
Reacting to the rumor, however, St. Mary team manager Ronald Koeman said Clyne would be playing all out for the Saints in a Monday match against the Red Devils, per the Guardian.
"If I have to be worried about those kind of rumours, then I will be worried every day and I don't like that ... I like my life and I like to be positive. It's no issue," he said, as quoted in the report.
This is as Southampton is putting together an extension to the player's contract.
According to Goal.com, the Saints are concerned about Clyne's possible departure after being among the most impressive booters in the Premier League, and are now scrambling to sign him anew.
In an exclusive report, the Daily Star also reported that there are multiple sides willing to add German midfielder Marco Reus, 25, to their teams, among them Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid complicating things.
Metro added that United may make a double deal, citing another Daily Star article, which reported: "Louis van Gaal is eyeing moves for Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus and PSG striker Edinson Cavani."
The previous Daily Star report said the athlete has a £19.6-million buy-out clause in his contract with Dortmund, ending in 2017. He does not plan to extend that.
Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman, 24, may also be with United if Roma exits the Champions League from a loss to Manchester City, Mirror said.
If Roma is eliminated Wednesday night, the report explained, van Gaal believes the acquisition price would drop from the current £60-million, matching the money the team paid for Angel di Maria.
According to Mirror, United was forced to halt negotiations to acquire the player before because he was recovering from a cruciate ligament injury and might just end up finishing what it started in January if he will be in tip-top shape.
But loudest among the transfer rumors is that on left-back Patrice Evra, 33, who might return to United after moving to Juventus in the summer, another report by the Mirror noted.
Metro wrote that the experienced athlete will help United's defense immensely and might choose to move there to secure a starting berth that he did not secure in Turin.
