Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Price: Delayed Due to Snapdragon 810 Issues [Rumors]
Smartphones aren't the same without their respective processors -- this is why Samsung Galaxy S6's arrival, reportedly coming out in the next Mobile World Congress (Mar. 2 - 5, 2015), might be delayed.
According to SamMobile, a report from Business Korea revealed that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 has been experiencing some issues. The processor was rumored to power Galaxy S6, although the device is also expected to get an Exynos 7420 version.
If things don't turn out well for Snapdragon, we might as well predict that Samsung opts for the Exynos variant first.
SamMobile's cited issues included the processor's apparent overheating after hitting a certain amount of voltage. This results to a reduction in the device's performance. Another problem involved an error in Adreno 430 GPU.
Furthermore, Phone Arena reported that the application processor's controller has been, allegedly, causing "a lot of headaches" at Qualcomm. The source added that the chipset's issues do not translate to Samsung Galaxy S6's problems alone.
LG's G4, Sony's Xperia Z4 and other handsets are likewise assumed to pack the processor, wrote Business Korea.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 was coined to be the "brain" of 2015's best Android smartphones, said Phone Arena in another report. Accordingly, the chip is made up of four Cortex A57 cores and four Cortex A53 cores (making it an octa-core CPU).
The performance-concerned Cortex A57 cores run at a clock-speed, upper limit of 1958MHz (1.96GHz). On the other hand, power-considerate Cortex A53 cores run up to 1555MHz (1.56GHz).
However, the speculation of Galaxy S6's delay should be not taken wholeheartedly, wrote SamMobile. The outlet believed in Qualcomm's ability to resolve the issues in the soonest possible time, granted that the company has been working double-time to catch up with Apple's 64-bit CPU surprise from last year's iPhone 5S.
As we have previously noted, the Galaxy S6 is rumored to pack QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels), 32 GB / 64 GB / 128 GB storage options, Broadcom's BCM4773 sensor chip, 16 or 20 MP main camera, 5 MP front camera, Sony IMX240 camera sensor, 3G of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop. The upcoming Samsung flagship has also been speculated to come up with a Galaxy Note Edge-inspired variant, now popularly dubbed as "Galaxy S6 Edge."
We also took note of the device's rumored price, which comes at $649 (full) or $199 (two-year contract).
What do you think about the Galaxy S6 and its 'Edge' variant? Will the flagship come out as expected? We'd love to hear your comments.
