White Supremacist to Represent Himself in Terror Case Involving Shotgun and Rifle
If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. That’s exactly how white supremacist Craig Cobb feels.
Cobb, 62, who hopes to turn Leith, N.D. into an aryan enclave, will represent himself against terrorizing charges. His younger 29-year-old partner in crime, Kynan Dutton, has asked for a public defender. The duo is accused of terrorizing people in Leith with guns over the weekend.
In their own defense, they say they were patrolling the town because of violence and harassment directed at them, The Washington Post reports. Cobb and Dutton took to the streets with Cobb’s wife equipped with a shotgun and a rifle, intimidating the town’s residents. Cobb’s wife recorded their activities on her phone, providing police with ample evidence to build their case.
They both currently sit behind bars without bond on seven felony terrorizing counts and could each face 10 to 35 years in prison if found guilty. Since Grant County doesn’t have its own jail, Cobb and Dutton are being held in Mercer County Jail in Stanton, N.D.
Prior to the arrest, Cobb sent a message to the Tribune saying, “Because of the many violences (sic) and harassments againt we (sic) and the children, we have commenced armed patrols of Leith.”
Cobb, an active neo-nazi, claims to follow the ‘Creator’ religion which “favours racial awareness,” prompting him to try and establish an aryan utopia in North Dakota by buying land in Leith under the radar. Members of the community have staged anti-racism rallies and town meetings against his plans, but little can be done to discourage his efforts, The Independent reports.
It is somewhat ironic that an advocate for an “aryan enclave” recently submitted his DNA as part of host Trisha Goddard’s “Race in America” series, the results indicating that Cobb is a small percentage African American. Cobb, however, dismisses the findings as “statistical noise” and refused to shake hands or first bump with Goddard.
