iOS 8.1.1 Jailbreak Download Update: TaiG Releases Software; 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 Versions Supported?

A new untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 8.1.1 has been released by a Chinese developer team, wrote International Business Times. The tool is called TaiG -- and it follows the earlier jailbreak attempt from Pangu which, according to the source, has been killed by Apple's iOS 8.1.1 firmware update.

Reportedly, IBT noted that many expressed concern over the new tool's safety, as there had been little information about its developers. The outlet cited iOS jailbreak pioneer MuscleNerd, who calmed everybody down with his Twitter post, "Nothing too unsettling with that TaiG JB... Just some light device fingerprinting. To see that, create an empty debuglog.cfg file next..."

"...to the exe file. From then on, when you run the tool it'll log the urls accessed in a log/.log file," he continued.

Devices supported by the TaiG jailbreak include the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad 4, iPad, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3 and the fifth-generation iPod touch, said IBT.

According to iDigitalTimes, around 800 tweaks are currently operational among iOS 8, iOS 8.1 and iOS 8.1.1 devices under Pangu and TaiG's jailbreak systems. Click the outlet's link to see the list of compatible Cydia tweaks.

In a more recent account, iDownloadBlog reported that iOS 8.2 is also supported by the jailbreak tool. It was initially assumed that the OS update won't be supported, showing users a failure prompt. However, the source took note of TaiG's statement, "In fact, support of iOS 8.2 has been completed by TaiG, as 8.2 is still at beta stage, we have disabled support for 8.2 in current public release."

The outlet predicted that iOS 8.2's jailbreak is officially enabled once Apple takes the OS out of beta.

MuscleNerd added that the new tool is more transparent than Pangu's. IBT wrote that this observation is likely, citing the association of TaiG with a Chinese pirated app store which made an appearance in the iOS 7 jailbreak from Evasi0n7.

iDownloadBlog also cited TaiG team's enthusiasm towards working with Pangu people. "We sincerely invite PanGu Team for a face-to-face communication, to find a way of cooperation for providing faster and better jailbreak service together."

Jailbreaking, as we have previously covered, provides an iOS device extensive power to install third-party applications and execute more customization opportunities. This is why the process always seemed very inviting. The Android counterpart for the term is "rooting."
