Cyber Monday, the official marketing term for the Monday after the United States' Thanksgiving, encourages online stores to put up special deals or products to stimulate online shopping. The online celebration made its debut on Nov. 8, 2005.
According to About Money the term is also believed to be a "ceremonial kick-off" of the holiday online season in the United States in between the celebration of the Thanksgiving Day and Christmas.
"While Black Friday is associated with traditional brick-and-mortar stores, "Cyber Monday" symbolizes a busy day for online retailers," About Money added.
The idea beyond this marketing strategy is that it estimates that consumers will already go back to work after Black Friday weekend and purchase online for those items which they were not able to personally buy on stores and thus has become an important part in the existence of online retaiing.
