NBA Trade Rumors & News: Corey Brewer to Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers?
Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Corey Brewer may transfer to either the Cleveland Cavaliers or to the Houston Rockets through a trade, reports claimed.
VC Post said this could mean financial gain for the Timberwolves "and future draft picks would hasten their rebuilding process in the wake of the Kevin Love blockbuster deal this offseason."
According to NBC Sports, the Cavs are still looking for "some wing depth," especially that LeBron James seemed to be overworked every game, playing 39 minutes every time. It also added that Brewer and Love made good chemistry in making good shots happen. "Nobody leaks out as the shot goes up more than Brewer and Love is the master of the long outlet pass," NBC Sports added.
Meanwhile, for Houston, Brewer will be able to step up the team's attack as he is known to be a player who can just go to the basket and score a shot, thus offering great help to James Harden, NBC Sports explained.
But the outlet noted that the teams eyeing him should also be aware that he has some issues too, like struggling in halfcourt offenses and he cannot shoot so much from the three-point line.
"He's also a riverboat gambler on defense who makes some steals but often gets burned and would leave Dwight Howard a lot to clean up at the rim in Houston," the same report added.
The player is still with his current team due to what reports claim, is the lack of readiness from team coach/president Flip Saunders to move him despite growing interest from the two teams.
"He's just too valuable to us to move. Says he understands why teams with championship hopes want him," Flip said in the VC Post article.
It has also been noted that since the team's scoring machine, Kevin Martin, is out for an indefinite time due to a wrist injury, Brewer is needed by his team to perform and score some shots.
"In terms of winning now, they'll need Brewer for depth purposes. However, Minnesota is in a daunting and loaded Western Conference and probably won't be making the playoffs this season. Trading the 28-year-old Brewer could expedite the rebuilding process because it would lead to more losses and a better draft pick. That mindset could certainly come into play closer to the trade deadline if and when the Timberwolves have completely fallen out of playoff contention," Marc Stein said in a Bleacher Report piece.
Should the trade happen, Brewer would definitely be an added bonus to whichever team he would choose as his skills and expertise could really be utilized during the game, especially if a team needs a backup to its star player.
