Android L 5.0 Update Release Date: Download Errors & Problems Plague Users?
When Android revealed its sweetest OS yet, everyone delighted at the mere thought of it. But with all the issues faced by the first devices "lucky" to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop, we might witness a transition that makes a flavorful shift from sweet to sour.
International Business Times reported that complaints have risen, citing the update's bugs and error messages. According to the outlet, early Android L users had trouble silencing their handsets.
But maybe some control work will save the day. Lollipop offers notification modes that include normal, priority-only and none. Computer World wrote that selecting either of the latter two yields the user options to set them indefinitely or within a specified time frame.
Installing the OTA update has been a problem for Nexus 9 owners who got immediate hold of the patch, wrote Android Pit. The source said that everything "hangs up" and comes back to the earlier version, disregarding the update. This seems to be an update error message that may be corrected if proper flashing procedures are followed. Waiting for a bug fix direct from Google is another option.
Another problem cited by IBT is a flashlight error, which basically happens when the tool is used for a long time. Accordingly, it either "times out" or shuts down. The outlet said the only solution to the problem is a reboot.
Phone Arena noted that the flashlight bug has affected mostly Nexus 5 users; Nexus 4 handsets appear unaffected by the problem.
Lollipop's app switcher presents information storage problems, as reported by Android Pit. This feature works by stacking cards as a method of multitasking, but users reportedly claimed that the more apps were stacked, the slower the device's performance gets. The outlet added that some other users cited the magical reappearance of previously-removed cards from the stack.
Of course, these problems follow up predecessors of their own kind, the apparent explanation to the delay of the update's roll-out. We recently took note of Wi-Fi and battery drain problems experienced by Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 users.
Android 5.0 Lollipop ships with HTC's Nexus 9 and Motorola's Nexus 6. It comes as an OTA update to older models such as Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013, Wi-Fi and Cellular) and Nexus 10. It's also slated to arrive in a number of Motorola devices including the Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen.), Moto G (1st and 2nd Gen.), Moto G 4G-LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini.
LG's G3, Google Play Edition devices and Nvidia's Shield Tablet will also be receiving the OS.
Rumored devices expected to get Lollipop include Samsung's Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S6, LG's G2 and HTC's One M9.
