'Criminal Minds' Season 9 Spoilers: Shemar Moore Talks Derek's New Love Life
As difficult as heartbreak can be, all we can do is get back on the horse. There’s no point in dwelling on your loss forever. Sure, you’re granted a buffer period to wallow in your broken heart, but you can’t let yourself wither away for the rest of your life. Although new romance can be daunting and sometimes worrisome, you have to be strong, something Shemar Moore from “Criminal Minds” is familiar with.
Although the actor is excited to embark on the “quickest, deepest dive” into Derek Morgan’s love life, he’s concerned that former Morgan/Garcia fans may be upset.
“I’m kind of wary of how the Morgan/Garcia fans are going to take it,” Moore said after last week’s episode, which introduced his new girlfriend Savannah, played by Rochelle Aytes. “Hopefully they don’t see her [as] a threat, but see this new lady as adding another dimension to Morgan.”
“If Garcia is allowed to have Kevin and other boyfriends, Morgan’s allowed to play kissy-face once or twice,” he added.
Moore also tells fans that his relationship with Savannah has long been in the making. “This is something that’s been ongoing,” he adds, so when we look in on their private time, “There’s an intimacy, and not just in terms of foreplay and kissing. There’s a comfort. There’s a trust. And there is a silliness and a giddiness and a rapport.”
But even new relationships go through their fair share of trials and tribulations. “Savannah is a doctor, so she’s very independent and she’s very busy,” Moore said. “And there’s a cute scene where Morgan’s all frustrated because we’ve had this really sexy, romantic night, and then she just up and leaves me.” But Moore went on to say that she will be good for him. Her strength and independence will keep him on his toes and expose his humble side.
There’s still much more for Derek and Savannah on the horizon. Be sure to tune into “Criminal Minds,” Wednesday nights on CBS.
