Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight Happening? Manny 'Wants' Match
Though he is preparing for his upcoming fight against Chris Algieri, Manny Pacquiao has expressed that he really "wants" to have a match with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
In an interview with ESPN, Pacquiao said that he is indeed looking forward to a fight with Mayweather.
"I do have one specific goal and that is to give the boxing fans the fight they have always asked for. I want that fight [with Mayweather] too. I believe good-faith negotiations could produce that fight. But it is impossible to negotiate when you are the only one sitting at the table. Two fighters who want to fight each other have never been kept from fighting each other," he explained.
Pacquiao and Mayweather have continuously been paired to match but both camps have never really agreed on the details of the fight since they failed to reach common terms.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said that Pacquiao's camp is very much willing to make the megafight happen and that they are only waiting for Mayweather's response.
"As far as the Pacquiao fight is concerned with Mayweather, as much as a lot of people surrounding it would want it to happen, myself included and Manny included, Floyd is reluctant to fight Manny Pacquiao, period. If people don't see that by now, they are never going to see it," he told ESPN.
Ever since rumors of the two biggest fighters resurfaced, Mayweather has continuously denied that it will happen and he has never comitted to anything definite for the said fight.
"We don't know what the future holds for Floyd Mayweather. As of right now, I will enjoy my time off. We don't know who we gonna be fighting next. I don't even think about Pacquiao. I don't even know him actually. But I wish him nothing but the best. But that's not my focus. I could care less about what Pacquiao does. I don't wish anything bad on the man. I try not to focus on no one else's business. If it happens, it happens. You guys can keep asking the same questions over and over. I move when I want to, where I want to, and how I want to," he claimed.
The undefeated American fighter has also hinted that if ever a fight with Pacquiao will happen, it will surely be on Showtime PPV where the former is under contract.
People are now clamoring for the said fight as both fighters have already expressed intention to retire soon. But in an article by local news channel GMA, Pacquiao said that he will still continue with his boxing career "as long as my skills and my passion remain strong"
"When I retire, I want it to be on my terms. I do not want to spend my retirement regretting that I walked away from boxing before I was ready. I do not want to come back and fight after I retire," the Filipino boxer added.
