'James Bond 24' 2015 Release Date, Cast & News: Theme Song by Sam Smith or Lana Del Rey? [Poll]
"Bond 24," the working title of the upcoming 24th film in the popular "James Bond" film franchise, has yet to release news about its official storyline. However, rumors about who will sing the movie's theme song are buzzing all over the Internet. The latest musicians to be involved in the speculations are Lana Del Rey and newcomer Sam Smith, Air Herald reports.
Smith, the 22-year-old British singer behind hit songs "Stay With Me" and "La La La," has reportedly earned the approval of longtime "James Bond" producer Barbara Broccoli, according to The Guardian. Smith allegedly beat other contenders such as Del Rey and Rita Ora.
Representatives of the singer still haven't confirmed the rumors, but a report from the New York Post claims that Smith's involvement in the upcoming "James Bond" movie is already underway. If it is indeed true, singing the theme song for the film would be a big achievement for Smith's budding career in music. His debut album titled "In the Lonely Hour" was released only six months ago, The Guardian adds.
On the other hand, Screenrant notes that Del Rey shouldn't be overlooked as a possible singer for the movie's theme song. The songstress used her vocals for "Once Upon A Dream" in Disney's "Maleficent."
"Del Rey's musical style has often been referred to as tailor made for film, with many pegging her song 'Shades of Cool' as a Bond theme in waiting," Screenrant writes.
Artists who have lent their vocal prowess to the "James Bond" movie installment are Wings for "Live and Let Die in 1997," Madonna for "Die Another Day" in 2002, and just recently, British singer Adele for 2002's "Skyfall," The Guardian further reports.
"Skyfall" was named as the highest-grossing "Bond" movie of all time, according to The Guardian. The song with the same title was also a huge hit. The track, co-written by Adele with producer Paul Epworth, sold over one million copies worldwide. The song also got to the No. 2 spot in the U.K. singles chart and won an Academy award for Best Original Song.
Casting News and Release Date
Daniel Craig will once again reprise his role as 007 in the upcoming film, and will be joined by "Skyfall" stars Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, and Ben Whishaw. Director Sam Mendes is also returning, The Guardian adds.
"Bond 24" will reportedly begin shooting in December with a release date scheduled in October 2015.
