'Suicide Squad' Movie Cast, 2016 Release Date & News: Harley Quinn is Margot Robbie [Rumors]
Margot Robbie will reportedly play the role of Harley Quinn, International Business Times reported.
The outlet cites Collider as source saying that the actress is "close to signing on" for the role. Who is this Harley Quinn, you ask? International Business Times explained:
"While interning as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, she managed to arrange a psychoanalysis with The Joker, Gotham's most twisted mind. During their session, The Joker manipulated the young woman into falling in love with him.
"She helped him escape and later, after being injected by Poison Ivy with something to give her super strength and super speed, engages in an 'abusive on-again, off-again relationship with The Joker.'"
The Joker, according to The Wrap, will be played by Jared Leto. "Ryan Gosling was initially sought to play The Joker but he was unwilling to sign a deal with options for multiple movies, according to one insider," said The Wrap.
Leto told The Hollywood Reporter in a Nov. 6 interview: "I do [have my eye on one project]. I am excited about what's happening. There are incredible opportunities and I'm very grateful for them. I'm looking forward to making films again now that the tour is wrapping up. It's going to be an exciting 2015."
He added, "I've sworn to keep my mouth shut but I think that very shortly there will be something to talk about, that's for sure."
It seems that Leto is not letting fans in but Screen Rant said that other "Suicide Squad" members have also been rumored to appear in the film. Quoting El Mayimbe, who spilled details on SchmoesKnow's Meet The Press Podcast, the outlet revealed rumored characters hailing from the world of DC Comics into the live-action version.
Floyd Lawton a.k.a. Deadshot and George 'Digger' Harkness a.k.a. Captain Boomerang are said to appear in the film, noted Screen Rant. Mari Jiwe McCabe a.k.a. Vixen, reportedly completes the trio, who shall "co-lead" the film, the report added.
"There's Blockbuster, a super-strong bruiser; Mindboggler, a punk rock telepath; Jaculi, an enemy of the Squad in the comics and blessed with superspeed; and Multiplex, a man named Danton Black able to produce clones of himself..." noted Screen Rant.
The Wrap added that Tom Hardy and Will Smith are also "in various stages of discussions" to appear in the film. International Business Times said they are to take on "the roles of bad guys in the film."
The Hollywood Reporter said that "Suicide Squad" is "about convicted supervillains who are given a chance to redeem themselves through dangerous missions." The movie is said to hit theaters Aug.5, 2016, the report added.
