Android L 5.0 Release Date & Download: LG G3 Users First to Get OS; HTC Nexus 9, Motorola Nexus 6 Next?
It seems Nexus devices won't be getting Android's sweetest treat first.
Apparently, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will premiere its roll-out among LG G3 devices. LG has announced on its official site that the upgrade arrives this week, among G3 smartphone users in Poland. Other "key markets" are expected to follow.
Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said, "LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority."
BetaNews recalled LG's "terrible reputation" in terms of updating Android softwares. It therefore makes sense that the Korean manufacturer breaks the connotation and leads the Android pack this time.
Also known as Android L, the new OS features material design that boasts intuitive and responsive user interface. Bold colors, edge-to-edge imagery and typography all help provide a consistent, attention-focused user experience.
"The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is," Park added.
The LG G3 is the company's latest flagship, successor to the G2. Full specifications are listed by GSMArena here.
According to Mashable, Google has not hinted that the OS will first arrive as an update to other devices -- making Sunday's announcement somewhat a surprise. The outlet mentioned in another report that the tech giant has previously indicated Lollipop to ship with HTC's Nexus 9 and Motorola's Nexus 6 first.
Owners of other devices could now be scratching their heads, wondering when in time they'll be getting the update. Since LG made the first move, Engadget said that the update in Poland is likely a "test run." Reportedly, such pilot test ascertains that the company detects and rules problems out before it massively rolls out Android 5.0 Lollipop all over the world.
As we have noted earlier, the identification of "outstanding bugs" may be a reason why other Nexus devices still don't get the update. The issue has been revealed by tipsters to Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii.
Specifically, a battery-draining bug haunting Nexus 5 users was reported by NDTV. The said problem has been resolved, as announced in the Android Developer Preview site.
The Lollipop roll-out originally began on Nov. 3, as written by the official Android Blog. Aside from LG G3, the update is also expected to arrive on the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Google Play Edition devices and Nvidia's Shield Tablet.
