Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Price: Quad HD Display, 64-Bit Chip in Upcoming Smartphone?
Speculated to be cooked under the codename, "Project Zero," Samsung's Galaxy S6 and its possible features and specs, continue to stir rumors. Aside from the expected metal furnish following that of Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4, the Inquirer reported that the new flagship may also sport a 2560 x 1440 QHD screen, 64-bit architecture and quite obviously, the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Apparently the QHD display could be true. Trusted Reviews cited the Korean tech giant's previous announcement that 2560 x 1440 pixel WQHD displays will be packed in its late 2014 phones. Note 4 has materialized for such promise, making it a possibility for S6.
Yet Droid Life reported earlier this year that Samsung could also be working on UHD -- which aims for a whopping resolution of 3480 x 2160. The outlet commented that such display in a smartphone would be incredible, citing that it should come around 800 ppi.
Such UHD plan has been confirmed by Samsung to come in its 2015 smartphones, according to Trusted Reviews. However, the source believed that S6 will likely resemble the rumored LG G3, which is said to get a QHD display.
Meanwhile, International Business Times reported that the S6 is also rumored to operate under Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chip. The processor was introduced back in April, expected to arrive in 2015 devices.
The said chip is branded by Qualcomm to be the "ultimate connected computing processor." It is said to allow the "most advanced connected mobile user experiences" such as streaming 4K Ultra HD videos, sharing high-end digital photos and playing 3D games.
Should the S6 sport the Snapdragon 810 chip, the handset will get access to the processor's specs that include CPUs quad-core ARM Cortex A57 and quad-core A53 (64-bit support), Adreno 430 GPU, Hexagon V56 DSP, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC support and Quick Charge 2.0.
Aside from Snapdragon 810 support, Know Your Mobile wrote that S6 may also come in another version sporting an Exynos set-up -- the 64-bit enabled Exynos 7420 chipset. Both versions are said to have 3 GB of RAM according to the outlet.
The S6 could also get the following specs, as reported by SamMobile: 16-20 MP rear camera with OIS support, 5 MP front snapper and 32 GB / 64 GB / 128 GB storage options.
As we have previously cited, the S6 could also be packed with iris-scanning technology and Tizen platform support. The device may arrive at the 2015 Mobile World Congress, dated Mar. 2-5, 2015. It is speculated to retail for £549 SIM-free (around $880).
Samsung has not released an official statement about Galaxy S6 or "Project Zero" yet.
