Anderson Silva Paralyzed? Rushed to Hospital; Couldn't Feel His Legs
Returning UFC fighter and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva had to be rushed to a Rio de Janeiro hospital on Monday morning after he complained of severe back pain after a training session at X-Gym.
MMA Weekly initially reported that Silva was trying to stand up after a jiu-jitsu training when he felt intense back pain. His staff decided to rush him to the hospital when he said that he could not feel his legs anymore.
Dr. Marcio Tannure, medical director of the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commision, said in the MMA Weekly report that the UFC fighter "felt a severe pain because of the contracture. It really hurts a lot, but it won't change anything in terms of training," he explained.
A similar Bloody Elbow report said that tests conducted on the fighter confirmed that he suffered from a bout of lumbago which is characterized by extreme lower back pain that is said to affect about 40 percent of people at a point in their lives.
Silva-Diaz fight in jeopardy?
Silva's fans can breathe a sigh of relief as reports said that Silva's condition has already improved and he has been released from the hospital.
Silva is still bent to continue his scheduled fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas.
According to MMA Junkie, this is good news for the UFC since it has already witnessed a lot of fights being scrapped because of injuries. It also noted that the Silva-Diaz matchup has been one of the most awaited fights since its announcement.
The match will be the comeback fight for Silva who broke his leg last year during a match against Chris Weidman. Silva has put on an amazing career with consecutive wins but his loss to Weidman and his injury slumped his MMA career on the ground. Some even thought that he could never come back to the Octagon to fight again but the past months proved that Silva is determined to pick himself up from the ground. His recovery was very fast that he was able to seal a fight with Diaz next year and has inked a 15-fight deal with the UFC.
His spirit, according to The MMA Corner, is "certainly willing to fight" as long as he can. He wants to prove that he is one of the greatest MMA fighters of his time. The report also mentioned that Silva can calculate his body condition and he knows up to what extent he can still push himself to. His fans just hope that a scenario similar to what happened last Monday will not happen anymore especially that his fight with Diaz is about two months away from happening.
