'Power Rangers' Movie 2016 Reboot Cast: 6 Stars Who Could Play Warriors
Perhaps kids from the 90s are the fastest children to learn colors, thanks to the epic team of six that is Power Rangers.
Red, Blue, Green/White, Yellow, Pink and Black Rangers are indeed coming back, according to MTV. Now Hollywood -- and everybody, actually -- is up for the biggest question yet: Who will compose the new mighty team of six?
Earlier this year, Variety noted the partnership between Lionsgate and Saban Brands in coming up with a fresh release of the franchise. It must be noted that Saban originally released "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" as a live TV series back in 1993. From then on, the franchise continued to grow, morphing into different versions.
Yet this upcoming movie could be the grandest, with Lionsgate taking part in its cooking. Home of today's most popular franchises such as "Twilight," "The Hunger Games" and "Divergent," Saban has expressed trust in the film company.
Haim Saban claimed, "Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level."
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer is also looking forward to the deal, "We're thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise."
Original TV cast members listed by Digital Spy include Rangers Austin St. John (Red), David Yost (Blue), Jason David Frank (Green/White), Thuy Trang (Yellow), Amy Jo Johnson (Pink) and Walter Emanuel Jones (Black).
Now off to the real deal: While the cast is not official yet, fans would be thrilled to see what rumors have got to say, and here they are.
1. Liam Hemsworth might play Red Ranger Jason, according to MTV. His casting as Gale in "The Hunger Games" might give him a Lionsgate headstart. After all, he's up to some action in the dystopian series' third installment "Mockingjay Part 1." He's got the height, brave facial features and gorgeous physique -- everything essential to make a good Power Rangers leader.
2. For the Blue Ranger Billy, Ansel Elgort is our geeky candidate. Blue is known for his tech-savvy nature and slightly awkward vibe. Think of Caleb Prior choosing to be Erudite -- that's it.
3. Green is in -- and so is Logan Lerman. Now he's not like the Green Ranger if you're thinking Charlie in Lionsgate's "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Rather, see Logan's performance in the Percy Jackson films. He's actually as cool as Tommy.
4. Nothing much has been known with Yellow Ranger Trini, except that she's Asian and exceptionally good at combat. Chiaki Kuriyama might be a good candidate for this role. Rotten Tomatoes cited her character as Gogo Yubari from "Kill Bill" and Takako Chigusa from the classic "Battle Royale."
5. Twilight's Ashley Greene could be the best option for the girly Pink Ranger. Playing Alice Cullen in the romantic vampire saga, she sported an aura of sweet yet dangerous nature -- perfect for Kim, whose color must not be underestimated.
6. Dayo Okeniyi as Black Ranger Zach? It's possible. Starring as Thresh in 2012's original "The Hunger Games," the expected "Terminator: Genisys" lead might be a good choice considering his experience in action-adventure storylines.
ScreenRant reported that "Power Rangers" hits the big screen on July 22, 2016.
